Hello_digital_image

Hello Digital @ Hereford is an action-packed two and a half day celebration of all things digital with 22 events, brought to you by Borderlines Film Festival, the biggest film festival in the Midlands. Starting with FACADES, the spectacular opening event with MASHcinema projecting images onto The Old House in the centre of High Town, right through to the VJ party at The Volunteer on Saturday 25th, there will be something for everyone whether novice, enthusiastic dabbler or hardened practitioner.

With workshops in stop-frame animation, digital photography, animating photos or VJing there’s the opportunity to learn, make, network and show off with projects being uploaded straight on to the web. Wannabe music video directors can get tips from Hereford’s own Price James, who in two years has gone from pimping his Myspace pages to working for Ridley Scott Associates.

Darryl Georgiou will be presenting the long view in Kino Pixel, charting the development in art films over the last thirty years from the early days of video to today’s wide open digital spaces. And Joshua Dugdale will introduce his documentary following the Dalai Lama on a three year epic around the world as he preaches compassion and non-violence in The Unwinking Gaze.

Local production companies will feature as well with The Rural Media Company launching Bleeding Poof and Catcher Media, Nomad Media and Five Elements productions showing off their talents in the Local Media Showcase on Friday 24th.

For the adventurous there is an eight hour Photography Marathon on Saturday 25th, with fresh themes given out each hour. And to round off with a music double, we are screening the much talked about Heavy Metal in Baghdad, on the trials of Iraq’s only heavy metal band Acrassicauda, and the fantastic Arctic Monkeys Live at the Apollo.

Events take place at The Courtyard, Hereford College of Arts and other venues in town. They are either free or cheap, but places are limited so book early! See the full programme at www.borderlinesfilmfestival.co.uk
STOP PRESS – Thanks to support from the National Lottery through Arts Council England we are able to put on extra events. On Friday 24th Fowler+Sumner will host a one day event for emerging and established new media artists to come together and enjoy a day of creative exchange in One -The Working Social, at Hereford College of Arts from 10:00 - 4:00. And on Saturday 25th at 12:00 Michael Baig Clifford, double BAFTA award winning director, will talk about his collaboration with video artist Ravi Deepres on Pure Cinema, a haunting and hypnotic piece exploring conventions common to cinema and painting.

Hello Digital is funded by Advantage West Midlands and Birmingham City Council.

Hello Digital @ Hereford is supported by the National Lottery through Arts Council England.

Bleeding Poof is the latest short film by The Rural Media Company. The film was created as part of the Sticks and Stones project which brought together isolated lesbian, gay and bi-sexual young men and women in a project that actively challenges homophobic prejudice and bullying. An on-line forum was created to capture the experiences and ideas of young LGB people who then they worked with us to create Bleeding Poof.
The film and documentary will premiere on Friday 24th October at 3pm at The Courtyard, Hereford, as part of the Hello Digital festival ( www.hellodigital.net).
Tickets are free and can be reserved on 01432 340555

Festival and Events Toolkit Available

Summer is the time when the county's cultural calendar seems at its most vibrant. Perhaps some of you will have already visited one of the many festivals, concerts, fetes or galas being held around the county at the moment and feel suitably inspired to create your own event. But where do you start? Herefordshire Council has drawn on the experience of largely local event organisers to put together a CD-Rom 'toolkit' packed full of information about how to devise and stage your own public event. The Festivals and Events Toolkit explores how you can tap into your creativity to develop an idea then looks at many of the practical aspects of delivering your concept. It may provide just the impetus you need to start planning your own event! For more details contact Melanie Potter, Principal Arts Officer, tel: 01432 261818, email mpotter@herefordshire.gov.uk.
